Davao Apple Store
I’m of fan of Apple. In particular, the Mac or as it was initially called, the Macintosh. I bought my first Macintosh in October of 1984. That was the one piece 128k model, the original Mac. This was well before hard drives but the Macintosh was the first personal computer to take advantage of the smaller floppy disks that were so popular for many years. Ah, the changes over the years. Geez, I must have had over 20 some different models, possibly a lot more than that. As it sits now, my household has 4 different Apple computers (five if you count the G4 tower on my floor that has issues).
There were many times I thought I’d have to move on to something else, as Apple’s demise was predicted on a regular basis. It was the in thing to do, guess when Apple would be bought or when they would go out of business. Seems pretty funny nowadays.
I’ve spent my time on various PC’s. I can even run Windows on my iMac, if I have a need to. I tired long ago of the debates or wars though; use what you like, need, have, etc. I like Macs.
Who knows what the future holds, especially in the world of computers and electronics, but I expect I’ll still be using some form of a Mac for quite some time. It’s good to know that they are readily available in the Philippines. Even Davao (no, not Samal – there’s an idea!) has a premium Apple authorized dealer, Facebook|Powerhub. I’ve not been there (yet) but it sounds as though they have the full line of Apple products. They are also an accredited service center. You might want to check them out the next time you’re in Davao, if you’re a Mac addict, too.

hi randy, i know many long time mac users in davao. in fact, it was a friend of mine from there who convinced me to switch … & that was 5 years ago. i saw a mac dealer in one of the nicer stores when i was last there 2 years ago. then you add powerhub, other independent dealers plus the convenience of a short flight to manila or cebu. you should have no problem getting your mac fix there.
Hi Macky – I figured there must be some other shops in Davao, as when I used to visit my wife in Quezon City there was a store that carried some Macs. They were in an area behind the EDSA SM mall that was all electronics and computer stores. I haven’t had the opportunity to explore Davao for Apple products previously.
This is nice as it seems they carry the full line. I currently usually order online, but not sure that is really an option in the Philippines due to freight costs. Of course, having a service center near by is a big plus, too.
I’ve had many Macs over the years too. It’s good to know I can buy another in Davao. I didn’t know they sold them there.
Hi Kevin – I hadn’t seen them there either, but I’ve hardly been around. Seems I’m always running one place or another when I’m in Davao. I’m certainly going to check them out next trip. Not that I’m going to need to buy one anytime soon.
well, if you ever do have questions on supply or the like, just ask me. i could easily ask my buddies at home via chat. they use mac ALL the time & rarely leave the city. and i don’t mean the old stuff.

Is this also a Premium Reseller. We don’t use that term, as far as I can tell, in the US. So I assume that means they offer more product and services?

Aside from giving myself a gift on my own this christmas which is getting a dot.com.ph domain (teens.com.ph), my parents also surprised me “somehow”, but getting me a 15″ MBP 2.66gHz which he bought at the Apple Online Store since wala pa silang stock nito sa Davao hehe.
Yaay, Mac na talaga ako. Okay sana dun sa Powerhub since they sell for prices like the Apple Store and even cheaper when you pay in cash, kaso yun nga, wala silang stock nung 15″er
Hi Kevin – wish my Bisaya was a little better but I think you’re saying there was no stock in Davao, so they ordered the MacBook Pro online directly from Apple. I wonder how much the shipping is on something like that.

13-inch: 2.26GHz = $1,199.00
13-inch: 2.53GHz = $1,499.00
15-inch: 2.53GHz = $1,699.00
15-inch: 2.66GHz = $1,999.00
15-inch: 2.8GHz = $2,299.00
17-inch: 2.8GHz = $2,499.00

Don’t buy one yet. Wait for the updates. In the next couple of months they’ll update to Core i Processors.
a quick update since my last comment:
there are 2 mac stores in davao. not official apple stores, but they do sell mac products and i’ve been happy with the customer service. there’s also quality stores in manila.
i know this because my macbook pro died while in the middle of a project and i couldn’t find an mbp with a 17″ screen in davao (only 13″). my options were to buy online or have a friend visiting manila buy the 17″ there. purchasing online is cheaper, the retail stores generally add to the price (my mbp was $200 more, but i had to get it asap).
you can also buy online at the apple philippines store. the goods are shipped from singapore and takes 1 week to arrive in davao. efficient & reliable.
the great thing about buying online is that SHIPPING IS FREE. yep, you read that right. so you just buy the product price w/o any additional fees.i think this is your best bet.
tons of mac users here, by the way. enough mac techs too as long as you know where to find them.

I didn’t realize that they had a Philippines Apple store, and with free shipping that I don’t see how you can beat that. I generally order online anyway.
I’m a little leary of mac techs in general, so I’d probably get some referrals before I took anything to anyone.

i also didn’t have much info about apple philippines until my return. a friend of mine who’s loves apple products gets his stuff through the online store. no problems at all with purchasing & shipping.
being used to US online shopping, i was surprised about the free shipping. i thought it was a temporary sale or something like that. pretty sweet deal.
How about the new release IPAD? Are they selling in Davao also? How much it cost?
Considering that they are backordered for the foreseeable future, I’m not sure it matters. My guess is that they won’r be available locally in the Philippines for awhile.
not sure how much supplies they have, but the apple philippine online store is advertising ipads (http://store.apple.com/ph). the site get its products from singapore, a hotbed of tech gadgets. you’d be surprised at how fast some locals here get the new stuff (including the iphones when they first launched).
Hi Macky – I just read an article that says Apple is planning an announcement of the iPad for the international market soon.
It will be interesting to see if any show up in the Philippines in the next couple of weeks or not.
just wanted to let you know that i’ve seen a few iPads in Davao the past few weeks. The owners didn’t buy it locally.
And the invasion begins. I have to admit that my son got one and it’s a pretty neat toy. SInce I have a MacBook and an iPhone, I don’t plan on getting one any time soon. If I only had one or the other I think I would be more inclined to look into them further.

Apple’s prices are set for the most part. So unless you find a sale they should be the same pretty much any place. You might try the online store for refurbished products. I’ve had great luck with those over the years.

Randy…how’d you been?..There’s a store in Davao called Powerhub, i’ve never been to this store, (i heard this store from my sis-n-law) that selling Apple products including iMac and Macbook..Also when i was in Cebu couple yrs ago, i saw an Apple store in Ayala Shopping Center located in Lahug City, Cebu. for online store best bet is the ebay.com, for info when buying products on ebay you don’t have to “bid” on the products you like if that products has an option of “Buy it Now”. Singapore and Hongkong also has a lot of online store selling Apple Products new or refurbished….
Hi Jun – you are right, eBay can be a good source for inexpensive items. I’ve found that you need to be careful with what you get there, especially electronics. But you can find some very good deals.

Hi Lloyd – I don’t know any that I could recommend. As I said, I generally like to buy refurbished from Apple. They have a warranty and I’ve had good luck that way.

From what I’ve read the iPhone 4 should be available from Globe with in a few weeks. Not certain what the actual date is.
