Samal Island Things To Do
2009 May 10
While the Island City Garden of Samal may be best known for it’s impressive resorts, there are plenty of things to do while visiting for a day or longer. As I’ve mentioned in a couple of previous articles, many of these activities can be done via tour companies such as, Samal Adventure Tour or ETOURS.
You can make a whole day out of a single activity, or pack several within in a day. This is just a partial list, and you could always just kick back and enjoy the beauty of Samal Island if these sound too taxing.
- Bat Caves – some of the most interesting caves in the world
- Mt. Puting Bato – the largest point on Samal and a good hike
- Hagimit Falls – the most famous falls on the island
- Snorkeling/ Scuba Diving – very popular activity because of the beautiful setting
- Zipline/Rapelling – zipline may be closed at the moment but rapelling is still popular
- Festivals – very colorful and lots to choose from
- Nightlife – while there are a few bars and the resorts might offer some entertainment, it’s pretty laid back
- White House – unique historic landmark
- Camping – the cheaper way to stay overnight
- Biking – explore Samal Island at your leisure

The Philippines surely has a lot of beautiful islands. Just looking at that photo of the beach on your sidebar makes me want to visit the place. I would have to say that I like your beach better than Boracay which I think is too overrated. LOL
Hi Terry – I only wish that were my beach. I’ve not been to Boracay but I’m very happy with the available beaches and resorts on Samal Island. If we can keep it from becoming too crowded, it will always be a treasure.
Hi Randy, sad to say I havent even tried some of the things you listed. Once in a while some resorts here have this bikini contests. I guess that is one “nightlife” event to attend one of these days.
Hi Ellen – well I don’t know that a bikini contest would be at the top of my list, but it could be fun.
I hope that I can arrange to be there during one of the festivals on one of our trips. Those look like they would be very entertaining. I think I should be able to fit the bat caves and maybe Hagimit Falls into our agenda next time.
I don’t think I’ll have any trouble getting to the White House as often as I like
It might not be yours technically (LOL) but you get to enjoy it a lot.
I agree about keeping it from being overcrowded. The thing is, with more people visiting or staying on these beaches, the less appealing it would be due to the addition of things which could just ruin the whole balance.
I mean would the beach look better with the addition of a five-star hotel or a shopping mall? I think not.
By the way, thanks for the reply. It doesn’t always happen that my comments get replied to by the author just because I left a link on the comment.
Hi Terry – well we haven’t gotten to enjoy the beaches much yet. That is something we expect to do on a regular basis once we live there full time. For now we plan to visit every couple of years as finances allow.
If we can get to Samal next year, I plan on spending a lot more time exploring the island and checking out the different resorts.
Oh, that’s still a good way to spend your vacation. More pics to come then from your future adventures. Looking forward to it.
