Mt. Puting Bato
Puting Bato, meaning white stone or rock, was so named beacause of it’s sheer limestone wall. The highest point on Samal Island, and home to many climbing expeditions, Mt. Puting Bato is a popular destination on IGaGoS. Located in Sitio Tayapoc, Brgy. Guilon, Samal District, it stands a towering height of about 1,345 feet (410m) above sea level.
One of the most visited sites on Samal, Puting Bato is perfect for a day hike, and in fact that is very common. Camping (tulda-tulda) is also available for those that want to stay overnight. I understand it might be best to take a guide for the climb, especially if you are not familiar with the area.
I hear the view of both Samal Island and Davao are wonderful from this high vantage point. If you are into hiking, or the outdoors in particular, this is one attraction that you’ll want to take in on your visit to Samal, especially if you have a few days to spend there.
Here’s a nice article with more photos from a fellow that spent some time there last year (I’ll try to get more photos in the future).
