davao delicious Dining in Davao

If you are planning a visit to Samal Island there’s a good chance you’ll be spending some time in Davao. For one thing unless you are sailing in like my friend, Ellen, you’ll have to go through Davao to get to IGaCoS. Davao is home to many splendid attractions, hotels, malls, and of course, eating establishments. We all like to eat, so where do you go?

If you’ve got friends or relatives in the area I’m sure they have their list of favorites, and you’d be wise to listen to them for a variety of reasons. On my first trip there I had a troup to feed, and I went with the group’s recommendation of one of Davao’s landmark tourist restaurants – Jack’s Ridge. I can’t comment on the quality of the food at Jack’s (I was too pre-occupied) but the gang seemed happy, and the cost was reasonable enough. At the very least it is a memorable location!

With so many choices out there, how do you know where to go if you’re on your own? Well, that territory is covered very nicely on blogs from some of the locals. Here’s a partial list for your viewing pleasure:

Davao’s Food Huntress
Davao Foodie
Davao Food Trip

IMHO the best of the bunch, by far, is Davao Delicious. This is another of Blogie’s excellent sites. Davao Delicious is widely read, award winning, and updated regularly, which is not necessarily the case with some of the others. I encourage you to check them all, as they all have of plenty useful information.

With the advice of your friends/relatives, and some helpful reviews from these blogs you should be able to find some gems, and hopefully avoid some disappointments. Manga-on ta.

    Hi Randy
What were you pre-occupied with? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hi randy, thanks. You know I’ve been told of Jacks Ridge before but I think I haven’t tried it myself. Knowing me, i probably was taken there before and I just didn’t know. When somebody else is playing the tourist guide, I just follow and keep my mind blank :)

Hi Dan – well I had my future mother-in-law there and I was asking her permission to marry her daughter. I thought it was a formality, but she really put me through the ringer. Dinner was over before I knew what had happened :-) By the time she was done with me I was barely able to offer my wife-to-be her engagement ring.

I was not properly prepped for this situation!!

Hi Ellen – the view from Jack’s Ridge is pretty memorable. I wouldn’t mind going there again. Maybe this time I’ll be able to remember the food a little better. In addition to the situation I described above, I was quite ill at the time. I’m not sure I ate much at all.

I’d be interested in knowing what the locals think of Jack’s Ridge. Is it only for tourists, or do they enjoy going there on occasion.

Hi Randy – The reputation of Jack’s Ridge locally is that the view is wonderful, but the food isn’t. I pretty much agree with that too.

Hi Bob – I guess that means Jack’s was chosen mostly for my benefit. I won’t put it high on my list to try then. Maybe head up to see that view again, if the situation presents itself.

    Thanks!

    Hi Randy,

Thanks so much for visiting http://www.Mindanaoan.com! =) Pretty nifty site you have here. Can we do a link ex?

Jack’s Ridge is owned by a batch mate of mine in Ateneo de Davao. I’ll let her know about the comments – not to irate her hopefully but to at least let her know that there’s room for improvement.

    Cheers to your website! =)

Hi Mindanaoan – thanks for stopping by and the kind words. I don’t really do any kind of blogroll or link exchange. I do mention sites I frequent from time to time in my articles, when it seems appropriate. Maybe down the road I’ll do something along that line, if it seems to fit.

I certainly hope your friend doesn’t get irate. My gang had a good time, as far as I could tell.
