Samal Island Resorts Directory

2008 December 21

samal map resorts3 Samal Island Resorts Directory

This is my best attempt to list the current and upcoming resorts on Samal Island, aka The Island Garden City of Samal. There are 50+ known resorts, 3 more under construction, and 4 more that may or may not still exist. Residential only subdivision resorts are not listed. I’ll attempt to keep it updated, and date it when I do. I encourage any input regarding deletions, additions, corrections and links.

Hi Randy – One that I know of that is not on the list is Maxima. I don’t recall the full name, but it is a beach house resort that is owned by Sonny Dizon, and is located a little south of Penaplata. It’s about 6 months old, or so.

  2. December 21, 2008

Hi Bob – I’ll put it on the list and see if I can find out anything more about it. If you come up with a contact number, let me know. It isn’t the same as the Samal Seaside Resort by chance? That is also a beach house resort. Not sure where it is located, because the site doesn’t say. There is a link if you want to check it out and let me know.

Update: I found the info – definitely two different places. Thanks for the info, Bob.

Hello randy! Would you know a La Familia Beach resort somewhere in Limao, Samal? I read about it in some of the blogs but there’s no contact number. The pictures of the place are really nice and we’d love to visit it if we find a contact number. Thanks!

    • July 10, 2009

Hi Cherryl – I’m not familiar with a resort by that name, though sometimes the resorts have changed names and owners.

There is a resort by that name in Batangas City. Possibly that is the one you are referring to?

Hi, Im a visitor here in Davao and my friends and I are into outdoors, hiking, etc. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a beach we can go to and spend the night.. something simple.. cheap.. as long as the beach is good, i’m find with sleeping on the ground for all i care, really. We are planning on going to Hagimit falls and Monfrot bat caves.. so maybe one close to Babak. Any other good things to do in Samal? Thanks!

  10. November 5, 2009

Hi Adrian – maybe Camp Holiday Beach Resort would meet your needs? They have tent camping (at least they used to) and are close to Babak. You can find a couple of articles on here about it and links to a site with more info.

Hi Arleen – I have not visited Pacific’s Little Secret. I understand that it is a private resort. You might try this number – 0917-747-7637. Let me know if that works for you and I’ll update the listing.

Hi! My fiance and I will be visiting Davao and will be checking in at the Crown Regency Hotel but would like to go to Samal Island during our 4-day stay. Any suggestion where to stay for just one night at the resort?

    • April 6, 2010

Hi Hannah – there certainly are a lot to choose from, and to some degree it depends on what you want to do while there.

Pearl Farm is a highly rated world class resort, and you can’t go wrong there. Chemas by the Sea is more exclusive and many people love it there, but not all.

Those are a couple that come to mind.

It seems that way. I do not understand the lack of advertising, web presence and contact information for many of these resorts. Some of them make it VERY difficult to try to get ahold of them, let alone make a reservation.

me and my wife are planning to go to samal island this weekend but we don’t know which resort to go to. we are planning to stay for about 2 days of relaxation and beach time (some peace and quiet won’t hurt).

could you recommend a resort that’s budget friendly.

    thanks and more power.

    percy

    • June 11, 2010

Hi Percy – we are looking at the same thing when we go later this year. We are considering Camp Holiday, or Bluewaters as lower cost facilities. We would also like to stay at Chemas but I believe they are little more money. Paradise Island is also an idea.

I would suggest looking at the web sites of the resorts that have them (see the links I’ve provided), and see what fits your likes and budget. They are all around the island, so it also matters as to what part of the island you want to stay at.

          mr. randy,

my wife and i eventually went to bluewater resort last june. our stay was ok and their staff is ok also. their rooms are also spacious and quite nice.

as for the budget, im surprised that we didn’t overshot our budget for the duration of our stay. it was a nice time since june is not a peak season for the samal island resorts.

          overall, i would recommend bluewater.

          • October 22, 2010

Hi Percy – thanks for your comment and recommendation.

Appreciate the effort you made in compiling the resorts. We (my parents, 2 full grown kids plus us) will be arriving in Sept in Davao and plan to proceed to Samal as soon as we land. We only have 3D/2N and will be arriving on Day 1 at 830pm. I know, :( a bit late but just wanted to take advantage of the great plane tickets. Am looking for a cottage that can house all of us or at least have us in duplex set-up, any suggestions on what looks clean, great food and new?

I’ve been emailing and surfing the resorts and I’d like a ground-level info on what will work for us, that’s why I asked you about feedback. :)

    Thanks huge.

Btw, any hope you’ll link up to facebook?

I don’t know for sure but maybe you could look into Maxima the House above the Sea or possibly Samal Seaside Resot (not sure if that is still available as the website is gone). Both of those seem to be set up for families. I’ve not seen either, so I can’t say how nice they are.

Chemas has a big cottage that will hold eight, also. I think most of them do.

I was told that ferry to Samal ends at 6pm so that means I stay in Davao city first. Thanks for your recoms, will check them out in earnest.

Hi, I can’t find Precious Garden of Samal. Maybe you can list it, my wife will be sooo lucky. It’s one of the best place in Samal and of course the best pizza restaurant in Mindanao. Thank you so much. Uli

    • August 7, 2010

Hi Uli – good to hear from you. I hope all is well.

Is Precious Garden a resort? I wasn’t aware of that. I see there is a website for it now. I’ll add the information.

Would love to try the pizza when we are there!

I would love to go to Maxima AquaFun and Canopy Tours. I’ve been to Paradise Island Beach Resort for like so many times, and I am still loving it. Hehehe! (^_^) Thanks for making this site. Very helpful information, especially that my mother loves going to the beach.

    • August 17, 2010

Hi Maria – there are so many resorts to choose from, but Maxima does look nice.

I wish I could stay at Samal and just visit each resort for a few days, until I made it through all of them. By then there would probably be new ones, though ;-)

    Hi Randy,

Can i request for a new contact number of the Pacific by the Sea, the contact numbers posted are all cannot be reached. We’re planning to have a family vacation on the fourth week, hope we can contact them the soonest. Thank you!

    best regards,

    Bien

Are you looking for Pacific Little Secret or Chema’s by the Sea?

Pacific Little Secret doesn’t seem to have any numbers that have worked for anyone. It may not exist anymore.

Chema’s numbers should work as far as I know.

Thank you very much Randy. I am very happy that I met some expats living here in Samal. And they are all nice and full of good humors and I met there filipina wives too. They visited the Inn and said it’s nice and we have a nice view as we are fronting Talicud Island. We can see Mt. Apo and Davao City as well. I am glad that when my husband arrive from the States next month he will meet some expats here in Samal. I came home last September as I foresee the construction and Brock is still in the States trying to sell our house and maybe we will be staying here for good. At least in my heart I know that he will be happy to know that a lot of expats also living here our beautiful island. You are very welcome to visit us in Red Parrot Inn. Again, thank you very much and more power to you, Randy.

    Hello, Randy!
    We need your help.
We are planning to have retreat in a quiet, private and clean resort on 23rd and 24th night of January with 7 meals and transportation.
There are 10 adults and one 3 years old kid in our team,
so we need 1 family room and 1 girls room and 1 or 2 boys room.

We have already visited your website and checked some resorts.
Our budget is limited, so we need a discounted special offer.
We have $1,300 (cash in dollars).
We need 3-4 rooms, 7 meals, 2 nights, and boat and van transportation.

We are some students and staffs from University of Nations in Hawaii, who are doing field works
that is a kind of volunteering works for the poor and the unprivileged in davao area,
so we are not rich in our budget, and look for special favor for us from a nice resort.
Now we are staying at a dormitory in Holy Trinity Village,
in which we pay $9 for each person everyday for three meals, official transportation and lodging.
If you can give us some pieces of advice for it,
we are going to be very appreciate for your help.

Please, answer as soon as possible,
we want to book early and to plan our time at a resort
    , if it is affordable.

    • December 29, 2010

Hi Paul – not sure how much help I can be here. Maybe one of the resort owners will read your request and reply. I don’t know any resort owners well enough to be able to get a discount for anyone, including myself. There are others that have replied here that do, and I hope they chime in.

I’m not sure which ones you’ve contacted, so I don’t know what to suggest either. I enjoyed Camp Holiday and I think they could accommodate you there but I don’t know if it is private enough for you.

Maybe you could try these if you haven’t: Marex Villarica Beach Resort, Maxima the House Above the Sea & Mc Tell Private Inn. The availability of meals may be an issue at a couple of those, though.

hi mr. Moon, try to contact the blue jazz resort. but i guess your budget is enough plus the amenities you required. they have a private place for your retreat, of may be try to contact also the hof gorai, the good thing about this place is that the have boat and van as what i have known for you. if you have friends here a filipino or a foreigner who live here in davao long time ago let them book for you. so that you wont be take advantage by some resorts staff.

    • January 4, 2011

      Hi Mr Moon,
I dont own any resort in Davao but I do travel a lot. Check my Virtual Tourist page and you’ll see that Chemas by the Sea can accommodate your needs within your specified budget. I find the $1,300 reasonable so dont think that you really need to scrimp. The nice thing about Chemas is its exclusivity so you’ll find the place very serene, clean and well attended. You can arrange boat transfer (they have private boats) pick up at Waterfront’s jettyand full board meals.

Booking is easy, just call his mobile phone 63-917-8140814 and ask for Quincho. Tell him a previous guest, Irene, recommended you. I think you’ll need two cottages.

      Enjoy!

maybe… the resort has a Thai theme/design… anyways, need a resort that’s not too expensive but still relaxing, with great food and perfect for couple..planning to stay overnight… maybe u can help..

    • May 10, 2011

Sounds like that could be Bali-Bali?

I don’t know what too expensive is, but Chema’s by the Sea is pretty nice. It’s usually pretty exclusive and has a nice beach. I like the food @ Precious Garden, and it’s also nice for a couple. The beach is not as inviting in my opinion. Precious is much cheaper than Chema’s. A little more than half the price I believe.

There is contact info for both of those listed.

I need help. I am going davao. Hear there are turtles there by the beach/ sea? which resort I should stay and would have a bigger chance of seeing turtles crawling in the sand?

Also which resort in SAMAL has the best sand, and yet affordable?

    ty so much.!!!

    • May 21, 2011

I understand that the Hawksbill sea turtle is native to Samal. Punta Del Sol has a dive site and evidently there is a good chance you might see them there.

I haven’t been to all the resorts, but Chema’s has nice sand. Affordable means different things to different people, so I am not sure how to answer that part. I enjoyed the beach at Paradise Island, too. It can get crowded there at times.

” … and 4 more that may or may not still exist. ”

LOL. That really made me laugh.

Anyway, do you have any information about accommodations for backpackers? I read from a few sites about home-stay programs in Samal island, but couldn’t find additional details.

By the way, how’s 3G coverage in the island?

    Thanks.

    • June 10, 2011

Hi Nik – many of the resorts have accommodations for backpackers, tents, nipa hut, etc. I am not familiar with any home-stay programs on Samal, but perhaps someone else is and can chime in.

The 3G coverage is average from what I understand. Some people get Smart to work OK, and some Globe, so it probably depends upon what part of the island you are on.
